“ Edit: Well this is strange...now the reviews for Barcino and Boxing Room are mingled, and that doesn't make sense as they're two completely different experiences??? Well, I guess this is probably one of the last reviews for Boxing Room as it is; I went for their last dinner service on Saturday July 1st. Yelp was right, the Boudin balls and fried alligator were wonderful. In case you're curious, the alligator just tastes like chicken, but with a bit more spring. Like the chicken regularly went swimming or something. On the other hand, their actual fried chicken gave me a sort of mental breakdown for about 2 seconds as I bit into the dry and crispy breading and found the chicken inside to be wonderfully juicy. I think I'm just doing this for the journaling aspect, because it's not as if anyone will be eating these exact dishes again as they were served by Boxing Room. But it's nice to show that they were doing something right. It was a little pricey for the value we got. But otherwise, service and ambiance were lovely. ”
“ This is one of those restaurants in the Hayes Valley that you stumble upon versus hearing raves about it from people then making your way to it. I happen to be walking back to my car from the Pride festival with a friend and we were hungry so we stopped in. Also, last time we ate together (years ago) was in New Orleans so it was fitting to grab some cajun/creole food. I guess a tradition has been made. Furthermore, do you watch Zagat YouTube videos? I just watched one about how to properly eat oysters. Basically, the first oyster you eat should have no extras on it in order to appreciate the natural flavor. More importantly, you should use the shell as a spoon so you can taste the sea water where the oyster came from (the oyster is sitting in a bed of water from its origin). The small fork is not for picking up an oyster--it's for putting some toppings on and making sure the oyster isn't still stuck to the shell. It's like putting A1 Steak Sauce all over a fresh quality steak. A1 sauce is made to add flavor to a bland steak, not to mask the taste of a good steak. At any rate, I couldn't not order oysters at this joint after watching that video. Anyway, we got a couple of cocktails (get a Sazerac if you're a whiskey lover), a dozen yummy oysters, and the fried alligator. Everything was great and the service was excellent. Can't go wrong with some cajun food in Hayes Valley at the Boxing Room! ”
“ They could work on service/table side manners, but food was excellent. Ordered gumbo, which was smooth with bitting spices on the sausage links. Chichen dinner.....sides amazing . ..the collard greens were mouth watering, the mash potatoes perfect..nice little amt of gravy on side. Finished evening with a hot toddy......made perfectly. ”
